Whole house water filters are better for your plumbing and appliances than straight tap water, and consequently, your home will require less maintenance. The way these filters work is by connecting to the main water line entering the home. This means that carbon, sediment, hard minerals, pollutants of all kinds, chlorine and other chemicals will not be running through your toilet, faucets, shower heads, washing machine, or anything else which draws water through your home. It is helpful to have your water tested in order to determine what exactly is in your water, and what needs to be targeted by your filter in order to be removed. This will help you know what kind of filter to buy. Well water is known for having hard minerals, particularly, so if your house is on well water, you will want a filter targeted specifically at these mineral deposits. You can also buy a filtration water softener combination unit called a “water conditioner,” which acts as a removal mechanism for undesirable or harmful chemicals, as well as mechanically straining out hard mineral deposits.

When choosing a whole house water filtration system, a few things should be considered. Among these is the flow rate, which is the amount of water consumed per minute by your appliances and fixtures. For instance, your shower probably has a flow rate of between two and a half and five gallons per minute, or GPM. A whole house filter needs to have a flow rate of ten GPM or more to be able to handle heavy usage. The filter size is also important. A larger filter will be able to go longer between cleanings or replacements, and should be gaged at at least four and a half inches by twenty inches. The life of your filter at this size will be between 100,000 and 150,000 gallons of water, enough to make it last several months under normal use. However, a larger filter with a carbon bed will last even longer if it has a backwashing valve that allows it to clean itself. A whole house water filter ought to have a port size of one inch or larger to prevent any drops in water pressure. Some of the jobs that a whole house water filter can perform are neutralizing and killing bacteria that cause odors and poor taste before the water ever reaches your faucet. It saves you from having to spend your hard-earned money on bottled water or faucet filters. It is important when choosing a filter for your home to consider how much water you will be using at one time, because if the flow rate actually exceeds the capacity of your filter, the filter will not be as effective at removing all the harmful chemicals and sediment deposits. A well designed whole house filter with good flow dynamics and heavy-duty construction will last for years, and will allow you better health as contaminants are no longer taken into your body through the pores of your skin when showering or bathing, or when drinking and cooking. A good system may have two or more components, one for the removal of large sediments, the other for the absorption of chlorine and other bad-tasting or harmful chemicals. When shopping for one of these filters, you can get a detailed breakdown analysis of how well the filter performs each of these tasks, the potential water pressure variable rate, and other factors that may influence your decision on what model and brand to buy. The installation of a whole house filter is very simple, with guided instructions and durable steel hardware to mount it on top of your water main, where it will stay put. If you need a contractor to install it for you, this can be done for a nominal fee, and you won’t have to worry about leaks, or damage to your new filter due to improper installation and use. A whole house water filter is a good investment, and will prolong the life of your appliances.

A house that is equipped with a patio or deck provides the homeowner or renter enhanced opportunities to enjoy outdoor living. Depending on geographic location, cold weather may restrict these enhanced opportunities to only a few months a year. Weather restrictions can greatly be alleviated though, and propane patio heaters are quickly becoming the top method of extending your outdoor living and entertaining season.

Prior to the widespread availability of these propane heaters, most patio/deck heat instruments were wood-burners. Wood-burners are still popular in several varieties and styles, especially in areas in which firewood is readily available. Even then, wood-burners involve safety risks including direct skin burns, deck fires caused by log shift and tipping of the burner, and roof fires caused by flying red ashes.

Electric patio heaters can be effective, but are relatively expensive to run. Another drawback is that they need to wired to your electric system or plugged into an outlet. This reduces potential heater sites and limits mobility.

Mobility should be considered when a decision is made to use a gas fueled patio heater also.
Two basic forms of gas fuel are potentially available for residential use: natural gas and propane. “Natural gas” refers to the type of gas that is available in some parts of the country, where it is fed to the residence through underground pipes. Propane is the gas that is available in canisters for use with gas grills and other appliances, including patio heaters.

A natural gas patio heater will require locating the heater at the point at which a gas line can be run. Propane patio heaters, however, allow for no-cost location of the heater anywhere. The location can then be readily changed by simply moving the heater to a new position. Some propane heaters have built in wheels, while others must be set on a small wheeled platform. The propane tank can easily be removed for movement of the heater, although in some models, just like with propane grills, you may be able to relocate the heater without even taking the tank out.

Mobility being a primary feature, a buyer should test the wheels for effectiveness and sturdiness if you are looking at a wheeled model. A model without wheels should be readily liftable in terms of balance and weight, with the weight centered low at the base. Any model should have a low center of gravity, to ensure stability during windy conditions. A top-heavy model will be prone to blow over, and can get damaged or damage furniture, plants etc.

Smaller table-top models are also available. These models provide the ultimate in ease of movement and placement. They are well suited to smaller patios and decks, where heat doesn’t need to be dispersed over as great an area, and where space for the heater is limited.

In any patio area under consideration, heat dispersion is increased by having a large dome at the top. When comparing propane heaters, a deciding factor could be which heater provides a broader dome while at the same time proving a low center of gravity for stability. A broad dome also can provide a bit of cover during rainy condition, which applies to most patios and decks, which are open-air (uncovered).

A good rust-proof surface is certainly a requirement under open-air conditions. Even some types of aluminum can corrode when exposed to moisture over long periods of time, so it is advisable to do simple research on the Web to read about the experiences of previous buyers. Of course, rust-preventing paint could also be applied after purchase, although there’s no good reason to have to do that.

The shopper should check to see if the heater is already assembled, and if not, investigate ease of assembly. Larger heaters will probably require some assembly, but a half hour with a screwdriver is vastly superior to a complex assembly process.

In the long term, ease of operations becomes a big factor in a buyer’s level of satisfaction with the heater. A push-button starter and an easily-understood heat control dial will make use of the heater a pleasure. Match or fire stick ignition is a distant second choice when it comes to starting up the heater.

Lastly, even though several years worth of product improvements have made all manufacturers’ product lines more reliable, a solid warranty plan is advisable when buying a propane patio heater.

If your old television has kicked the bucket, or you’re simply ready to upgrade, a plasma television is the way to go. However, plasma televisions, with their sleek, modern shape, are displayed much differently than the old standard televisions with tubes. If this is your first, you may need some tips to display a plasma television.

Since you have just invested a lot of money in your new appliance, you want to make sure you maximize enjoyment. As such, it is important to consider the viewing distance between the person and the screen. Think about the sore neck you get as a result of sitting too close to the screen at a movie theater. To avoid this, make sure your television is an appropriate distance from your seating area. Plasma televisions smaller than 37 inches can be viewed comfortably from 6 feet away. As your screens get larger, so does the viewing distance. Televisions in the range of 40 inches should be viewed from a distance of 10 to 14 feet, around 50 inches should be given 12 to 16 feet, and you need to give yourself a viewing distance of at least 15 feet if your television is 60 inches or greater.

Once you have determined the viewing distance, it is now important to determine how you store it. If you are replacing an old tube television, you likely have an entertainment center. As long as your stand is strong enough for the weight of your television, you can mount your new, slimmer, television here. Plasma televisions can also be anchored to other sturdy horizontal surfaces, such as tables and mantles. An attractive choice is an armoire designed to display your television. When not in use, the doors can be shut. This allows you to use a living space for multiple activities, as well as protecting your plasma television. Please make sure your television is firmly anchored to the horizontal surface you choose, especially if you have young children.

Although plasma televisions can be anchored to horizontal surfaces, one of their draws is that their slim profile allows them to be attached to walls made of sheetrock, drywall, brick, stone, or tile. Televisions mounted on sheetrock or drywall should make sure to make use of stud anchors, while televisions mounted on brick, stone, or tile, should utilize cement anchors. If mounting on drywall, find the studs using a stud-finder. Most televisions require only one or two wall anchors secured with several screws. If you are using two, remember to level them so your television does not hang skewed. You will likely need a partner to hang the television. Again, it is important to ensure that your television mounting is sturdy in order to avoid damaging your television or injuring someone.

Most plasma televisions come with a tilting stand that let you adjust the angle at which you view. However, if this is not flexible enough for your use, you can purchase special tilt wall mounts for your television which allow you to tilt your television screen up about 25%. Remember that this tilting will effect the appearance of your entertainment system if you prefer a perfectly flat look.

One of the most popular ways to display a plasma television is to mount it on a fireplace. Before you choose this for the location of your television, use a thermometer attached to the outside of the area you wish to hang. If the thermometer reaches above 90 degrees Fahrenheit, you should choose another location to hang your television, as the heat could damage it. If you have a sturdy mantle above your fireplace, the easiest thing to do is mount your television there. You can also mount your television directly into the stone or brick using cement anchors.

With these tips to display a plasma television, you should be able to find an attractive place to store your new purchase!

Have you ever dreamed about having your ideal home? You know, the home that has the exact rooms you envisioned, the crackling fireplace in the wintertime, and the relaxing naps out on the patio during the summertime? The home with a garden, a nice lawn, and a garage that’s not overflowing with old junk? Whatever your vision of that ideal home is, when you finally move in to your first real home, you probably come to the realization that it’s not exactly how you pictured it––yet.

That is why you have both the pleasure and the job of methodically filling in the gaps. When you start at square one, you can customize it to match your vision, but it will take a bit of work. One of the joys of modern technology is the home theater set up, an experience that used to be the exclusive domain of movie theaters. Now, even a family on a modest budget can afford some excellent surround sound equipment, a flat screen television, and a DVD or Blu-Ray player for only a few thousand dollars total!

If that sounds like too much, you can build up slowly. One advantage you have is the ability to pick and choose which things are most important to you today, and what to wait until later to purchase. You can use this strategy when going room by room and deciding which accessories, appliances, and furniture should go in each, or by just picking the first things that would be most helpful in each room. When it comes to the home theater set up, the truth is that all you really need to start out is a working television and a DVD/VHS player or monthly cable/satellite service for extra channels.

To expand on that home theater system, you then simply prioritize what would be the next item most likely to improve your experience. In addition to the hardware of your home theater set up––such as the television, the tape players, the remotes, the surround sound speakers, the cable boxes, the gaming consoles––you can also determine whether you prefer satellite or digital cable to add a staggering number of viewing options. The benefit to these systems is that you can pay a flat monthly rate and gain access to many movies and TV shows that you don’t have to buy or rent. You also don’t have to own a DVD player to watch things coming in from digital cable or satellite.

So, you see the options available to you, but perhaps you aren’t convinced that a home theater set up is the best way to spend your money right now. Well, only you know for sure what you most want to spend your money on, but in terms of the value for your money, the home theater set up is surprisingly cost effective. Think about how often you spend your time watching television, and imagine how expensive it would be to watch all that in a movie theater at $10 for every two hours. Or, consider how much money you would have to spend on a vacation, and how long the value of that vacation would last. The benefits of a quality home theater system can be amortized over the number of years and the amount of time you and your loved ones spend enjoying it. When you look at it this way, you can see it’s a great deal.

However, consider the joys it brings your family. You finally have a place that is ideal for family togetherness. You can watch family-friendly movies and TV shows with your kids, and when they’re in bed or at school, you can enjoy your shows and movies. You don’t have to travel to enjoy it, and you don’t even have to be out of your pajamas. The joys of having a home theater set up keep on giving for years to come.

A home theater system has become standard equipment for nearly every house in the western world. Nineteen-inch TVs have gone the way of the rotary phone and surround sound speakers systems can even be found at cut-rate electronic stores. With this growth in popularity has come a growth in the options available for home theater systems. One of the newer options is to use a projector rather than a traditional television. Home consumers are more demanding than ever for their home theater experience. New formats like HD and Blu-Ray can deliver theater-quality video and audio to your home entertainment center. Unlike a plasma or LCD TV, a projection unit can take you to the next level by mimicking the projector of a commercial theater.

For years, projection units were seen as the province of the business world. The high cost of equipment combined with the grainy image they produced kept projectors in the board room. However, like any technological product, prices have fallen and quality has risen exponentially in the last few years, and projection systems are now within the reach of many home owners. Even for a screen size around seventy inches, the projection units are far less expensive than other large screen systems. A projection unit typical costs between one thousand and two thousand dollars, whereas a seventy-two inch plasma screen can cost as much as nine thousand dollars.

The most attractive aspect of projection options is the small physical profile they take up in your home. Televisions have become continuously thinner and many now can be hung easily on a wall. But with a projection unit, you can eliminate the screen completely and project an image right on the wall if you wish. You can enjoy high-quality entertainment without sacrificing either floor or wall space.

The only space consideration is where to place the projector. Some home owners choose to use a coffee table or a similar platform. While simple, this method has the disadvantage of taking up furniture space. An alternative is to hang the projector from the ceiling, though it does take a little skill and specific tools to safely hang the projector in a manner that will prevent falling or the risk of fire from overheating. A popular new method is to mount the projector on top of a bookshelf at the back of a room. This allows the projector to be high enough to be out of the line-of-sight, but it is still low enough to allow quick rearrangement if it becomes necessary.

Another advantage of projection units is that the size of the screen can be altered depending on the size of the audience. For everyday use, the projector can be set at a distance to create a forty to sixty inch screen. If a larger screen is needed for a larger audience, the projector can be moved to create a much larger viewing surface. In fact, many home owners have used projection units for outdoor events and had the screen as large as three hundred inches.

Formerly, the major concern for projection units was brightness. They needed to be used in completely darkened rooms for the colors and contrast to be fully appreciated. For home users, this meant that they had to be used in rooms that had heavy curtains to block out light or rooms that were completely windowless. However, the new generation of projectors are far brighter and can easily be seen even in a room lit with daylight.

The only downside for projectors is the need to replace the bulb. In general, bulbs last for about two thousand hours of use. This means that they are excellent for movies or sports, but replacement costs may be a little high if used extensively for daily television viewing. Bulb prices continue to drop, but they are still around one hundred to two hundred dollars per bulb.
