To maintain a healthy lifestyle eating a healthy diet may be the most important aspect. While exercise is also very important, eating a balanced diet that is full of vitamins is not only needed to maintain a healthy weight, but to keep the body working efficiently as well. While eating healthy requires discipline, and some sacrifice, there are several ways you can improve both your cooking and eating habits to ensure you are eating foods that are not only delicious, but nutritious as well.

The first tip in how to cook and eat healthier is to cook and consume plenty of lean meat. Lean meat is a building block in ensuring you are getting plenty of protein. Lean meats, including chicken, fish, or pork, should be the focal point of at least one meal per day. While these meats can seem bland and tasteless, there are several ways to improve the taste of the meat without sacrificing the food’s nutrition. Some of the best ways to improve the taste of the food is to use plenty of rubs and spices. However, be sure to avoid using a rub that contains too much salt or sugar, which could make the meal quite unhealthy. Furthermore, consuming lean meats that are organic will ensure that the meat has not been treated with additional hormones, which could potentially lead to health hazards.

The second tip in how to cook and eat healthier is to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are all natural foods that have always been at the center of a balanced diet. These foods are full of both vitamins in fiber. To ensure that you are getting the correct amount of fruits and vegetables, you could try to have at least one serving of fruits and vegetables with every meal. While many fruits and vegetables can be consumed without any preparation, further preparing the vegetables could make them more delicious. One of the best ways to prepare vegetables, without sacrificing any nutritional value, is to grill them. To improve the taste of the vegetables, you could season them with fat free oil, salt, and pepper. Be careful while grilling them as they do not take more than a few minutes to prepare.

The third tip in how to cook and eat healthier is to avoid complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates, which include those found in sugar, alcohol, and flour, are difficult for your body to digest and can lead to the storage of excess body fat. Because of this, it is best to avoid consuming these foods altogether. However, while avoidance is best, this strategy often will end up failing because most people will end up falling into their cravings and over indulging frequently. Instead it would be better to either eat these foods no more than a couple times per week or find alternatives to the food. For example, for someone used to consuming plenty of ice cream, finding a version of the food that is low in sugar or fat would be better.
