Default Angel Trees

Does anyone else's community do "Angel Trees"? They print out the age and sex of a child in need in the community and pin them on a Christmas tree in our local stores. You sign up and get an angel and then purchase a gift of between $10 and $20 dollars and bring it back to the tree. The local social services then come in and collect all of the gifts and the number assigned to the child when they were signed up for the giveaway. I love doing this. I have no idea who or where in my community the child is but I can imagine them opening the gift, which may be the only gift they get.

I am not sure if they still do it, but our department of Family and Children used to do this. They didn't put the trees and angels in the store though...that is a great idea for more exposure.

Our local Children's Services do that too. I think it's probably something they do all across the US. I usually try to pick up at least one but I haven't been able to this year.
