All of my kids have chores that they are expected to do. At least half (if not more) of my kids friends do not have to do chores and think I am a mean mom. Do you think it is ok for kids to do chores?
I think it is a good thing to give chores. I think it is how they learn about responsibility. It would only be bad if you made them do everything like little slaves and did not help out.
The other parents are doing their children no favors by not giving them responsibility to help out at home. Chores teach them not just the practical means to take care of themselves and their own homes when they grow up; it also helps reinforce that family unity includes helping one another.
I agree. You can't raise a child to think that they don't have to work for a living, and assigning them chores to do around the house teaches them just that.
Thank you for all of the wonderful replies. I was starting to wonder if I was being mean. It is not like I make them do all the work. I do a majority of the chores. Anyway my kids like earing allowance and I do want them to learn that money doesn't grow on trees.
