Default Head Lice

My daughter keeps bringing little friends home from school. She has long hair so it is a real problem-its thick and curly. I've treated twice in the last two weeks (the whole family) so it is getting expensive.

I also don't like the repeated chemical exposure. The wet combing method (with conditioner) is rather arduous given her curly hair. I have an electronic lice comb that fries the nits in the hopes of preventing re-infestation, but do they work?

Have you any other ideas as to how to prevent them?

I have heard that putting hair gel or hair spray in your kids hair can help. I hate lice. They are so hard to get rid of. You just have to keep checking her hair every week. My granddaughter had lice on and of for 4 months. It drove me nuts cleaning everything all the time.

Every week just isn't enough because she'll be scratching her scalp till it bleeds again by then I'm doing it nightly right now.

I sent her to school covered in hair spray today to keep the frizzies down-I hope maybe that by doing that it doesn't give such a perfect path from their head to hers.

Are you sure you are getting all the eggs out of there? They say they can stay on the head for 10 days and then they hatch!
Poor kiddo!

How about mayo-- and then a shower cap. Somehow the mayo kills the eggs and makes them come right out.

Have you talked to the school or her teacher? If you know they are coming from school then make sure the school is taking some measures too. When I worked at a daycare we had to do MAJOR cleaning to get rid of them including throwing out all the dress up clothes, bleaching nap mats etc.

Yes I am sure that I got all the eggs out. Firstly-both of the products I used are designed to kill the lice still in eggs too. Secondly-I then spent three and a half hours going through, picking the eggs out one at a time and then sectioning off her hair. So its not hatchlings. The whole family was done this way.

I spoke to the school and they sent letters home, but it depends on the other parents doing their part too. That is the weak link.
