Default Kids picking meal one day of the week?

Do you ever let your kids pick out what everyone will eat for supper? We do this one day a week. They get to pick what they want to eat and everyone else will eat it too. Sometimes it's not to bad, but then other nights.......

I think that sounds like a great idea. We do something similar at our house. The kids are allowed to help plan the dinner menu, but the stipulation is that it has to be a balanced meal. It helps teach my kids to make healthy choices because it's the only way they get what they want for dinner. I'm always amazed at what they come up with. My son always requests mac and cheese, but to make it healthy he has me add tomatoes or broccoli to it.

We used to do this when ours were smaller. They got to pick the main item and then I would go from there with veggies, etc. as best I could. Mostly it seemed to be hot dogs or hamburgers. Sometimes it was grilled cheese sandwiches. We just never knew.

I think this is a great idea and we have done this ourselves. Of course you never really know what they are going to pick. You just hope it is something that you can eat as well. Most of the time it was Pizza in our family.

We often did this when the kids were younger, often on a Friday or Saturday night. The favorites were pizza or chicken nuggets and what the kids called fat french fries, which were thick cut homemade potatoes done in the oven. They still like these.

Wow! It's that bad? I wish my daughter would pick what she wanted once in a while. I get sick of planning all the meals by myself. I will ask her and my hubby what they want? Whatever you want dear or mom is what they tell me.

Depends on the kids I guess. Some will eat nothing but candy or other funny stuff so I don't think this would be a good idea for some people.

My daughter is a little young for this, but I will definitely let her request certain dinners and help with the menu. I think it's a good idea to let kids have input and not always be told what they can and can't have.

We have done this before and it does help with picky eaters. Not ever day of course otherwise we would be eating corn-dogs and mac/cheese every day of the week.

I don't remember letting the kids pick a meal for everyone to eat. Sometimes when they have done something good in school or at home, they can 'request' for a special meal as a treat or reward.
