I have so many know-it-alls in my family that just irk me! Especially, in-laws. I'm afraid I'm going to go off on them someday. Can anyone here tell me how to handle a know-it-all who has to prove they are the smartest one in the room?

I have a few family members like that. I usually just let them go and I don't say much. If they get a little long winded, I just excuse myself to the bathroom. I hate confrontations. It can be infuriating, though! Thankfully, people tell me I have the patience of a Saint!

I wish I had some good advice for you, Monica, but I usually can't keep my mouth shut for very long around people like that. I don't particularly like confrontation, but sometimes it's just a necessary evil.

We have two that we sometimes deal with but if we are lucky we only seem them about twice a year. The best part is the wife (its a married couple) is also a hypochondriac so the stories just go on and on. Fun.

If you don't see them often, you ignore it. You would not want to blow-up and have people think that is the way you are. Try to stay away from the know-it-all.
