Default Meeting someone new

We have a dear family friend who lost his wife unexpectedly (2 year anniversary in July), and now he says he is finally ready to try and date. The problem is where do you go to meet women? He isn't religious so he doesn't go to church, and I'm not sure a bar is the place to meet someone looking for a relationship. Suggestions?

How about online dating sites? That's how my mother-in-law met someone new after my father-in-law passed away. I'm sure there will be some duds, but he might meet someone interesting that way.

What are his interests? I would say do things with him that he finds interesting. It's best to date someone who shares the same interests. So if he likes to read, go to the library.

I think the internet is a good option if he is interested. He can find people his age with similar interests. If friends and family know people they can set him up with, that could work too. There are a lot of options but I think it depends on his interests and what he is looking for.

I think online dating might be a good starting place for this situation. He probably won't know how "ready" he really is to start dating until he starts looking to see what is available.
