Default T.V.'s and children

Do you think T.V. has more of a negative impact on children or positive? And we all talk about it, but how much do you actually monitor your child's watching habits?

I think it's definitely a negative impact. Sure, there are some educational programs out there, but as kids get older they don't just stick to those. In our house we have Direct TV only in our bedroom. The living room TV has a DVD player and I'll put a movie in for my daughter maybe once a month. The rest of the time it's toys and figure out how to occupy your imagination.

I watch what my child watches. I think it depends on what your child is watching and how long. I pick the shows my child can watch. I usually sit down and watch them with her. I don't allow her to watch much TV.

I only let my children watch a certain amount of television each day. I also monitor what it is they are watching. I use parent controls to block all channels that might contain material I would not want them to see.

I just try to teach my children how to make the right choices. I want them to learn how to say no when something is not right and how to walk away from things they should not due. I use TV to help teach them that lesson.

I think lately people rely too much on TV and too little of themselves to take care of their kids (or the kids they are paid to babysit). There are times to watch TV and be entertained, then there are times to get up and do something else (I bet this is why we are known as the country of fatties).
