Default 2nd dog

How long do dogs live for? We have one now but after this weekend with house guests who also brought their well behave dog, we were thinking about the next breed that we might want to get. An inside dog who is calm of course.

Dogs can live for up to 18 yrs or so, but I think the average is about 14. The people behind us have a 16 yr old golden retriever! We are thinking about getting another indoor dog as a playmate for our pitbull and a companion to our kids, but we are still just in negotiation mode right now.

Generally speaking, smaller breeds live longer than larger breeds. That said, I think all breeds are living longer than they used to because we're taking better care of them than we ever did thanks to advances in veterinary medicine and better diets.
