Default Any tips for dog training

We live in the country where we can just open our door and let the dogs out to go potty (without a leash.) We have two acres and plenty of room to run, but sometimes they decide to go several houses down, and refuse to listen to us when we yell for them. Does anyone have any dog training tips to keep dogs in the yard?

I'm stating the obvious, but the only sure way I know to keep the dogs in the yard is to have a good strong fence. If they go wandering you are liable for whatever they do in terms of damage or accident.

I've heard of people having good luck with the invisible fences for pets. They give the dog a slight shock when they go past the line. Not sure how much money that is though.

I have two dogs, and a fenced in yard. Unfortunately, I would never trust them outside of the fence off leash, as they love to chase cars, and cats.
I know of a friend down the street, whose dog used to get out of their yard all of the time, she ended up buying one of those electric collar things, and it works beautifully. The dog hasn't gone wandering since they started with it.
Though I would agree, putting up a good strong fence would be the best solution. I don't like the idea of electric shocks, so would be reluctant to use it, unless the dog was escaping from a well fenced property.
In Australia, the electric collar system, costs approximately $300.00. Cheaper than a fence, but not sure cruelty wise as to how it would go with your dogs. I would rather spend the money on a fence, consider it an investment for your property, and kindness for your dogs.
I must admit, if I had been inside all of the time, and someone let me out, I would go for a run too!! Typical dog really!!
