My mother's dog died not to long ago and I know she is lonely. Still, I know she doesn't want another dog. She has said something about wanting birds. What is the best kind of bird to have as a pet?

I would just go with a small parakeet or something. The larger birds can cost $500 or more, but the little ones are cheap and really easy to take care of.

I've had parakeets, canaries, and cockatiels. The parakeets and canaries were much cheaper, but the cockatiel was an all around much better bird. My parakeets and canaries were always up to no good and trying to escape whereas the cockatiel was more like a pet and followed me around the house.
