Our dog could care less about the cat except when she gets anywhere near his dog bowl. I guess that is his one safe place. A friend has a new kitten who is great with their doberman too, are these random exceptions to the cat vs. dog tale?

I think it just depends on the personalities of the dogs and cats. I've had both scenarios. I used to have two cats and one dog and the cats hated the dog with a passion. Currently, I have two dogs and one cat and they all get along well.

My cats love my dog and vice versa. My moms cat hates all other pets (cat or dog) - she is a one pet house cat! It's funny the different personalities that pets have.

Oh yes there are a lot of different personalities in both cats and dogs. Most of the ones we have had through the years have always gotten along or at least tolerated each other. We've never really had any serious problems between them.

I always heard that when they grow up together, the bond they have from an early age is what makes for the best buds. When they are "adults" its hard since its more like someone is trying to move in on their area and when jealously starts.
