Default Dropped Off Animals!

I have HAD IT! We live out in the country and every few days, our collection of animals grows because people bring them out and drop them off. I hate to do it but I can't afford to feed all of these animals. I just found a mother cat and 6 kittens on my back porch. I have three cats of my own and 2 more were dropped off by my place last week. We have two of our own dogs and three have been dropped off during the last month. I HATE to call the pound but I'm going to have to.

Can you check around and see if there is a no kill shelter any where near you or close enough to drive to? I so hate the thought of taking them to the pound because you know they will just kill them in a few days. I understand where you are coming from though, it really ticks me off too when people do this!

You should also check into organizations that will trap feral cats and sterilize them and then return them to their colony. Unless they are declawed, most domestic cats can do OK on their own. It may not solve your problem of people dumping new animals, but at least the cats that are already there will not propagate. Not all abandoned animals can be returned to a domestic situation so this is a pretty good option.

It really is ridiculous that this happens. I feel for you because we live in the country too and I guess that makes us a target for drop offs. You could try a no kill shelter, but I know all the ones in my area are saturated and have no more room.

I know exactly how you feel. I've done volunteer work with a no-kill shelter. You could try calling the pound and ask them if they know of a shelter or group who can take any of them. Every city and town is different, but sometimes the pound works closely with no-kill groups and they might have some contacts and be able to give you a lead.

If you have time, there are lots of animal shelter groups that network on Facebook. You can post photos on their pages and many times a rescue comes through. Good luck for your sake and theirs!

That's really terrible. I have 2 cats that I found outside, apparently after they were dropped off. One was a kitten in a box with a sibling, who unfortunately did not make it.
