Default Fat dogs

Why is it that some people cannot see that they are being cruel by letting their dogs get overweight? My neighbour's little dog was so fat his belly touched the ground and he could not walk properly. The vet finally persuaded my neighbour to stop feeding him titbits but he says that he feels guilty when the dog begs from him! Whose fault is that?

I have an obese cat and an overweight dog and my vet said that's just the way they are. My cat is huge and I was concerned, but he honestly doesn't overeat and he doesn't get treats - he's just a big cat. Same for my dog - she actually eats less than she's supposed to for her size and she's still a meatloaf, lol.

They pull at our heartstrings, don't they? Those sad eyes looking up at us, their complete dependence on us to meet their every need... we just can't resist giving them little nibbles. It's not out of cruelty, but misguided affection.

Our cats were overweight when we adopted them, and I had trouble getting them to lose weight...turns out they were knoshing on the dog's food when I wasn't looking.

One finally died of heart disease, the other has been losing weight and doing great.

Our neighbors have a fat dog that ended up breaking its back. They accused us of making the dog fat because 1 time they saw me give the dog a treat. They asked me not to and I never did again. I was just amazed that they wanted to blame someone else for their dog being fat.
