My favourite breed at the moment, are shetland sheepdogs, most people know them as minature Lassies.
I love all breeds of dogs, and if I wasn't married, with two kids, I think I would have one of each breed if I could.
I have also owned a cross breed, given too me on my 13th birthday, she stayed with me for 16years. I miss her terribly somedays, and she was very obedient.
I have also owned a doberman, and a cavalier king charles spaniel, both had lovely natures. Unfortunately the cavalier developed heart problems, a genetic disease of this breed, and we had him put to sleep two years ago, he was only 7 years old.
The doberman became extremely dominant over the cavalier, too the point where everytime he came to us she would growl at him. So we found her a good home, she came to us as a second hand dog, so too speak, so cavalier was there first, so first come, first stays.
I spent a lot of time researching breeds after the cavalier's heart problems developed, and most purebreds and crossbreds can carry genetic disorders, which will develop into long term medical problems. I would recommend that you research your breed, before buying, and in particular research your breeder.
We are still in contact with the breeder of our shetland sheepdogs, their Nana so to speak. They often stay with her when we have to go away, this is no mean feat as she lives about 3 hours away. She loves to see them, and means I put extra effort into grooming them before they visit.

I'm also a big fan of Irish Wolfhounds. Years ago, I helped out at a friend's dog training school... or should I say we trained the humans? People would bring their dogs to classes, and we would teach them how to train their dogs- so their dogs respect for them grew as they learned. Of course, if a dog was more than the owner could handle... or, as the case was more often, the owner had a problem being clear to their dog- we would step in, to make sure nobody, including the dogs, got hurt.

Anyway- I became friends with this lady who had a beautiful Irish Wolfhound. When I say this dog was beautiful, it wasn't just that I love how the breed looks, this dog was beautiful inside and out. Gentle as a lamb, so laid back. He would never be a top ranked obedience dog, but that's just because he was very casual with how he listened, not that he didn't listen.

But to know him was to love him. I only wish their life expectency was only 7 years! They are however, the only purebred dog I think I will definitely own at some point. Overall, I'm much more of a mutt gal!

That is one of the things I hate about that breed. Well that and the fact that I'm allergic to them. If it wasn't for that I would own one in a heartbeat.

My favorite breed is the Border Terrier. Not too many people are familiar with them but they are great dogs. They are very eager to please, easy going, and good around kids. Our last 2 dogs were of this breed and the one lived to 13 years and our last lived to 16 years.

It's been hard to get over our last dog, but if I do decide to get another, I will be getting the same breed.

My favorite breed of dog has always been Yorkies. They are so cute and cuddly. The one I have is small enough that I carry it with me in her own little bag almost wherever I go.

My favorite breed is the American Pitbull Terrier. They get a bad reputation but they are wonderful family dogs they are just very very social. If you put them outside and chain them up they won't do well but in the house with their family they are great. I have a 2 yr old (almost 3 now) pitbull in the house and a six month old baby and we have had no problems at all.
