Default Getting a dog is a big decision

My sister said she is going to get her daughter a dog for her birthday. I think it is a bad idea because she won't have the time to properly care for the dog. I don't think a 9 year old is responsible enough to take care of a dog on her own. How do you tell someone they are making a bad decision about getting a dog?

Well I don't know that you do to be honest. How do you know the 9 year old won't be responsible? Some kids are while some aren't. I think also it would depend on the type dog too, big, small, puppy or older dog? It is a big decision to make so I hope they end up making the right one for the dogs sake also.

I think a dog is a great family pet and it's a great way to get more responsible. Of course its your sisters decision, I'm sure she thinks they can handle it.

What kind of dog are they going to get?

When it comes to kids and pets, its all about the breed along with keeping the child updated to properly take care of the pet. We have a rather large dog so it will still be a few years before our kids can walk him proper without him pulling them, he is after all an 80lb pup.
