Default Heart worm shot....

Has anyone gotten the heart worm shot for their dog yet? It lasts 6 months and you don't have to give them a pill every month. I started doing that with our dog and he had his second one last month. It's really neat as you don't have to worry about remembering to give them a pill every month. (and our dog hates taking pills!)

I think a shot would be much better than the pill, if it is safe. How long has that shot been around for. Has there been enough research or use to be able to say it is safe?

I usually just use the spot on that has heartworm protection in it. We don't have a huge problem with heartworms yet but I have a feeling it is spreading since things were terribly damp at the start of the summer and then dried up completely.

It would be easier than each month but then again how much does it cost in comparison. is the cost worth the extra money just to avoid remembering something once a month?

We get the heart worm shot also. It cost about the same as the meds unless you were buying the cheaper ones but still one time and you don't worry about it again for 6 months. I think they have been around for several years now.
