Default Leaving a dog in the car

I don't know what some people are thinking - I heard that there was a new law passed in my area that if you saw a dog left in a car in the animal was under distress (from heat) you could try to get in touch with the owner (if you knew them), the police, and then break the window to get the animal out.

I'm not sure I like the law - I mean I would never leave my dog in a vehicle in this heat - but I also would not feel comfortable breaking into someone's car either.

Thoughts?

I hate people that do this with pets or with kids. I would love for there to be a law that could let you smack people like this. If you find out the real law be sure to share, I am sure others are interested.

I like the law. I mean the first time a person gets their window broken out and they have to pay to fix it they will learn their lesson. Too bad some people can learn the lesson just because they care.

I can't stand people who do this either, but a law allowing people to break other people's car windows could cause some trouble. I just wish people would use more common sense when taking their pets out in extreme weather conditions.

I would be shocked too if that was a real law. I mean it sounds good and all - maybe they are thinking as a last resort to save the dog.

If there is a dog suffering in the heat I'll either call 911 or break the window regardless of the law. People should have more sense than to leave their animals in the car in this heat.

Sounds like a good law to me although I don't think I would waste too much time searching out the owner either. They can call the cops if they want and I'll report them for animal cruelty.
