Default Pet Carriers?

We have a couple of soft cat carriers with screen sections and compartments for accessories. We used to have a hard plastic one. I've seen people take cats to the vet in a variety of ways.

What do you use?

I'm one for the hard carriers. I usually drive them places, and like being able to use the seatbelt to strap the hard case in... I had a problem with a friend's soft carrier, and wasn't able to do the same.

I like to know, that if- God forbid I'm in an accident with them in the car- their carrier won't go flying. However, if I was taking public transportation- I'd prefer the soft bag ones... I will admit, the hard cases can be a pain then!
