Default Pet Fish For Beginners

What is the best pet fish for a beginner?

I want to have a pet fish in a bowl but I'm not sure what kind of fish I'm going to get. Goldfish is the first fish in my mind but I read in some forums that it is not a good idea to make goldfish as a pet for starters.

Really? If it's not goldfish I wonder what kind of fish it is? I think people use goldfish because they are cheapest...not neccesarily hardiest!

I think those Beta fish are good for bowls. You can only have per bowl because they will attack each other or any other fish you put in with them, but if taken care of properly I think they have a pretty good life expectancy. Also, they are inexpensive.

I will try to look for that Beta fish. I was considering a suggestion of a friend of mine and that is a carp. I have seen beautiful carps with different colors on ponds but I'm not sure if they can fit in a small bowl. Are there carps that are small enough to place in a bowl?

There are species of carps that are small in size and you can have that as your pet. You can visit your nearest pet shop that sells fish. You can also ask them the best fish for you to start with.

I agree with the others that Beta fish are supposed to be good starter fish however, I got one for my kids and it died within a week. I am not sure what we did wrong, we only fed it like it was supposed to be so I know it wasn't that.

I think maybe the best idea would be to go to a local pet store (perferrably one that specializes in fish) and talk to the people there. I have had zero luck with goldfish in the past and I have had one Beta fish that lived for about a year. Fish are tough, especially if you're going to keep them in a bowl and not a controlled tank. I have about as much luck with fish as I do with plants...and that's not good.
