I have a new female puppy and this is the first time I got a female. How do you tell when she is ready to mate?

If I`m not mistaken, I believe you have to wait until they are past one years old. But I could be wrong. Female dogs have periods just like us women, only it`s called in heat, I think. I would definitely ask your vet.

You should wait until your puppy is 2 years old if you're looking at breeding. The will start going into heat from about 6 months- and you'll know (think of what human females go through every month).

You should really just get her spayed, there enough puppy orphans in the world already.
