Default Shock collar?

What are your thoughts on shock collar training? I've used the citrus spray ones that spray them when they bark. It worked, to an extent, and made them smell better. But I just could not bring myself to use a shock collar.

Shock collars just seem mean to me and it's not something that I would ever use on my dogs. Same thing with the electric fence things that's just mean.

Mean? I don't think so- I think it's safe. We have the invisible fence and I love it. Once you train your dogs to stay in the perimeter they are set. Our fence is on 4 acres of our land, so they have free range.
I would rather see my dogs have free range, than in some coop or tied up when we are at work.
I don't see anything mean about it, if it's done properly.

Shock collars may be safe technically, but they do not seem like something ethical to use. Even if your dog isn't harmed, it still doesn't seem right to me somehow. While I am in no place to tell the rest of you what to do or not, but I would never use them.
