Default Spaying kittens

What is the right age for kittens to be fixed? We have a stray girl kitten that we are keeping in our barn. She is so sweet! We already have 2 indoor cats so we can’t take her in. Our barn is heated so she is fine. I’m guessing she is probably 11 weeks old now. When is the right time to get her fixed? I don’t want male cats coming around!

They use to wait until they were at least 6 months old but are now doing it sooner. They say that a female cat can come into heat as early as 4 months, so I would call my vet and try to set something up in the next couple of weeks or you could end up with more 'new kitties'.

Are the ages the same for both cats and dogs? All pets we have adopted were already fixed so its not something we ever needed to do.
