Default Terrified Dog

My dog was an absolute wreck at NYE's celebration and all the fireworks. I read that counterconditioning is one method used. It is when giving your pet his favorite toy, treat, or game only during or before thunderstorms or fireworks. Is there anybody here who have any more suggestions or tips?

Try to keep them away from the noise - so in the house. I have a friend whose dog hates fireworks too and keeping him in the house helps a lot. I don't know what else you can do.

I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard really good things about the Thundershirt. It's supposed to calm dogs who are spooked by thunderstorms, fireworks, and just any general commotion.

I've heard something about those Thundershirts but don't really know how they work exactly? We also had a dog once that hated the loud noise of fireworks. We just made sure we had him inside the house and he was ok with that.

My dog was in the house, but with the neighbors shooting them off next door, they sounded as if they were right on top of us. I have heard of the Thundershirt, too, but thought they were silly. Now, I think there may be something to it. When I held him tight in my arms, he seemed to calm down a bit.

I think the Thundershirt is actually endorsed by the AKC and some veterinary organizations. I'll bet it had a money back guarantee so it may be worth a shot.

Our pup last night for the walk of the night (before bedtime) ended up with him growing his baby bark a tad more. A stray wandered into our yard who was at least 3 times the size of our pup and he did not back down. I was very proud of him.

I just caught a video about this Thundershirt and it looks pretty good, the words behind it make sense (when they talk about swaddling a baby). I might look into getting this.
