Default Bookshelves

I'm an English teacher so you can imagine I have a lot of books. I try to keep my bookshelves organized but can't seem to have them look neat enough and stay that way. Is there a trick to keeping books on a bookshelf looking neat and tidy all the time?

We own a lot of books as well and I have always found that when you pull the books to the front of the shelf (the actual edge) it makes it look neater. If you push the books back to the wall and put things in front of them it immediately looks messy.

Put them up once and never touch them again in your life? I have a half wall shelf that is just as your own, cluttered. I try as best I can but unless I am dedicated enough that each time I use/move/touch a book, to put it back where it belongs its going to look like a wreck.

It is even worse when I am on a kick to go ahead and research something (for my own amusement, not work or school related) and I have a stack of a dozen books spread out over my office.
