A lot of people underestimate how much storage space they actually have. Hanging hooks and shelving really makes a huge difference with how much storage you have. I organized my sister's storage room and fit everything in about a quarter of the space.
Yes, shelving is a good idea. We added some to our laundry room and it's surprising how much more 'stuff' we can get in there. It just helps to have a place to put something!
I'm always thinking vertical when figuring out where to store everything. Tall filing cabinets are great for storage. Of course, the best solution is getting rid of things you don't need anymore. That's the hard part!
Vertical is perfect when you're talking about all my shoes. I have a couple long hanging ones in my closet and they are made out of a vinyl material. The problem is that my cat is addicted to chewing stuff like that, so the bottoms are all destroyed.
Go vertical for storage
