We had several 1 gallon cans of mineral spirits laying around in the garage. We simply cut off the top at an angle making sure to leave the handle. To smooth the edges, we used a file and sandpaper. We then flipped it over on the short side with handle out. Then we filled it with items that needed storing. The handles make perfect drawer-like bins.

That does sound like a good idea and the perfect thing to do with the cans besides throwing them out. I'll remember this and save some of ours later on.

Tons of people pitch things out in our area and it always surprises me when people do not even bother to try and reuse things. There is one lady who lives in our area and she is by herself expect for her two small dogs. Each week she has 2 1/2 trashcans out on the curb.
