Default How often do you declutter?

I was cleaning the other day and we just have so much stuff. Closets are filled, there are storage bins in the basement and attic. I don't even know what exactly is where anymore. I'm ready to just start throwing things away.

How often do you go through everything and get rid of stuff you don't use?

If you are overloaded with stuff, I would plan to do a major declutter of it all over say a one month period. Go room by room and bring it to the local Goodwill or thrift store. Once that is done, I would do a monthly maintenance of getting rid of old papers, outdated clothing and such. That way it won't become overwhelming and can be managed with much less effort.

I declutter every three months or so. Sometimes I wait 5. But usually it is every three. I know it sounds a bit excessive but my partner and kids are always dragging all sorts of things home that just end up everywhere.

Not enough! I'm in the process of doing this right now. I hate to de-clutter. I do love to donate it though, so it makes me feel good. I hate the mess it makes though!

I try my best not to bring home stuff that I know I will hardly use and always force myself to throw away anything I come across in day-to-day cleaning that I have not used for quite a while. This really helps keep the clutter down.

I've been a sad pack rat for most of my life. It's very hard to get rid of stuff, but I actually am slowly giving things away. There's that old saying that if you haven't looked at a it in a year, do you really need it? Probably not.
