I don't think anyone could beat my son for turning a bedroom into a disaster area. He has autistic spectrum disorder and he is a terrible hoarder (he even hoards his laundry. He still manages to reduce me to tears at times because we have to spend hours every week just keeping it tolerable. There are one or two alterations that have really helped. I got rid of his wardrobe and replaced it with a wall mounted hanging rail with a slatted shelf on top. He can't stuff rubbish in his wardrobe now, I blocked off under the bed with storage boxes (long term storage) so he can't squirrel stuff away under there any more. I also bought a very sturdy draw unit, the kind that has strong canvas draws, it was called a merchant's chest. I used strong luggage labels to label each drawer with what should be in it, it didn't look out of place and he had no excuse for muddling stuff up. It has made a difference, but it is still challenging to keep his room acceptable. |
