I caught a commercial on the DIY network that talked about it being cheaper to make your own storage locker-foot rest-mud room bench than it is to buy one. Most cost about a grand and for about 150.00 you can just make your own. Has anyone done this before, seems like a good way to stay organized.

We actually made a couple of benches for our mud room and used them for storage too. We just used those piano hinges for the top and put some cushions on them. I don't remember exactly what they cost but it wasn't very expensive to do.
