How do you keep and organize old books and magazines (like encyclopedias, cookbooks, how to books and magazines) that are seldom (if ever opened) but are still useful (in the future perhaps)?
That's an interesting question. I have a lot of old books and magazines which I rarely use anymore but are too valuable to throw away. I still put them on the same shelf with the newer books.
I have used cereal boxes with contact paper on them to make organizers for my magazines I want to keep. They are cheap (what will you do with them after you eat the cereal besides throw them away), can be covered with contact paper that matches your decor, and keep everything together so you don't lose your mind. Here's a link to the instructions:
With magazines I cut out the stuff i want to keep and put them in a folder. My books I just keep on a shelf. I don`t have a lot of cook books. I have recipes that i have cut out of magazines and backs of boxes of food. I keep them in a large envelope.
CrystalBrooke, that is a great cost effective idea. I like it, and if you decide to maybe one day get rid of those magazines you could throw away the magazine file too and not feel guilty!
I have a big box of wildlife magazines but don't keep anything else. I don't have any soft of organisation for them though, and have to dig every time I am looking for something.
I only keep holiday magazines for the craft ideas and recipes so I don't have so many of them that they are a problem. Books on the other hand I accumulate and will not get rid of them ever. My husband is constantly having to build me new bookshelves.
