Default pre-made or not?

We have a closet that currently has no door, it never did. The room is part of an attic that was furnished but the last owner never stuck a door on it. I am thinking of leaving it open but with a closet organized in it as the room will become an office. What is the best way to do this, buy a system or make one as I go?

It's probably more up to what you want to put in it and how big it is. Are you looking for only shelves? There are all kinds of organizing kits out there for closets, so you might just want to check them out first. Good Luck!

I would just go look at what somewhere like Home Depot has to offer. It really depends on how many shelves you need, what lengths etc. Walmart has a Rubbermaid set that is $20, and the individual shelves start at around $10. Unfortunately for me, the set has shelves that are too short for what I need.

I am honestly thinking at this point of leaving it open. I want to setup a painting easel and its actually the right size for it. I figure at a later date maybe we can put a door on it but its such a funny shape that I am not positive how it will work.

This is a horrible quick mspaint picture of it, but for example other than saying its a crazy closet...

The left side comes out about 29 1/2 inches, the right side 27 1/2 inches (depth), the width of the closet is 30 inches and as you can see from the image its on a slope. This room that its in is part of an old attic that was converted into bedrooms years ago (so it has the upside down V as the ceiling, then about a 4 feet of normal walls going up the side. On the left side of the closet its 65 inches & 84 on the right side.

It is seriously the closet that Jack built.

Well, with such odd dimensions I would probably say to build your own system. If you want a "make-shift" door just so you don't have to see inside the closet while you are in the office just hang a sheet or a curtain across the doorway on a curtain rod.

I think odd shaped rooms/closets like that do best with custom shelving and organizers. Especially if you're going to leave the door off, you're going to want to make sure it looks just right when someone peeks in.
