Have you ever met an actual hoarder or do you know somebody who was a hoarder? I have not but I've met somebody with hoarding tendencies. It's kind of scary because they have such an emotional attachment to things. One woman my mom was friends with had to check everything you tried to throw away in her house.

I have not personally known anyone who was a hoarder. I have watched that show, about people hoarding. It is crazy to watch the hoarders, their messy houses, and how they are attached to trivial things.

I have met a woman who I would consider a hoarder. She had to move out of her house and I was helping her. Everything she didn't have room to keep she kept trying to give to me, like a cotton weight. If I said I didn't want it then she would cry. I don't understand it. She cried because she had to get a new bed and her old bed reminded her of her son, who lived a couple hours away and visited her often.

Nope, I've watched the show but have never met anyone like that ever in life. Wow, I am honestly glad that I have not met anyone like that. The shows really grosses me out - you can't even walk through those houses!

I know of a few and none will accept that they have an issue about it. It is truly like a disease and I wish I could help but you can only help those who accept the help willingly.

Yep, there are some episodes of the shows that I have had to change because I couldn't handle it. Especially the animal episodes.

What I would be interested in is why these people start hoarding to begin with. Is 'hoarding' the actual psychological term for what they are doing? I thought I heard it was a form of OCD but I could be off on that.
