Default Underground living

It seems like its a new trend, or at least i'm hearing more about it. People turning things like old missile silo's into homes, or building it out of the side of a mountain.

Could you ever see yourself doing this?

As soon as I read the title of this thread I thought of Dr Strangelove.

I don't know much about this new trend but thinking about it I would like my own little hideaway although I doubt i could live underground long term. I can imagine myself getting depressed down there, unless I'm misunderstanding the concept!

I once went to visit the extensive underground tunnel system dug into the 'White Cliffs' of Dover under the castle.. which were the combined operational command centre of the Army Navy and Airforce during the second world war from which the evacuation of Dunkirk was overseen.... They've been carefully restored and opened to the public. Short vid here if anyone wants a look..

Dover Castle - Kent TV

It is ingenious the way everything was organised.. including a fully equipt hospital, and a complete telephone and communications system, that allowed them to keep in contact with bases all over the country... couldn't imagine living there for any long period of time thouogh... it was clustrophobic after an hour or so....

I think I'd miss sunlight coming in windows, but it's an interesting concept.

There's an underground network of walkways in the city where I live, and you can walk for blocks underground, go shopping and connect to the subway. It's surprising how lightly some people are dressed down there in the middle of winter.

I love it when you can re-purpose something like a silo into something like a home or a business even. I would love to take an old barn and make a home out of it. I would love the space and I would have to have a huge fireplace of course.

I love these type of homes although I couldn't see myself living in a cave. I would be glad to live in a bunker or underground or in a converted barn or something like that.

I want one! I love those huge big barn makeovers. I don't mind the silos or the bunkers either but I would have to have some type of outdoor light to come in. I don't think I would be able to live completely underground and not have natural lighting of some sort. Can you think how dark it would be if the lights went out?
