Default Bread and more bread

Stuck inside today because it's raining all day! Thinking about making some breads.
Who makes homemade breads and what kinds? I'd love some new recipes.

You know that is the one and only thing I have never been successful at making. I love fresh bread too! I don't know what I am doing wrong. I told my husband I wanted a bread machine for my birthday this year.

I make terrible bread too. The consistency is fine, but I guess I just don't have any good recipes because the flavor is always so bland. I've tried to make everything from pizza dough to loafs of bread to foccacia and it just comes out blah.

I have never successfully made home made bread but I do like the idea of it. What types of bread machines do you recommend?

I wouldn't even know where to start in order to make bread. I have alwas thought this is something quite difficult to do.

On another note, today at the church pantry they had a lot of stale bread left over. I decided to bring it home and do something with it. Does anybody has a good bread pudding recipe or give me an idea as to what can be done with tons of stale bread?

Lucretia-make croutons with it. Cut it into cubes, toss it with some of the dry ranch dressing mix from a packet and toast until brown in the oven. They make wonderful croutons for later!

Cero-I have a Black and Decker bread machine and I love it. It makes many things including dough that you can take out and form any way you wish.

Is a bread-maker worth the initial cost (and how much do they generally run)? I've always wanted to make my own bread - I try to avoid animal products and generally have trouble finding store-made bread without dairy in it.

I have always wanted to make my own bread but just don't know how to get started. I am thinking of getting a bread maker for Christmas.
