Default Digital Meat Thermometer

I learned the hard way the other day that digital meat thermometers should not be placed in the oven. They will melt. It was also a great lesson that, no matter how much we think we know our way around the kitchen, reading the directions on a new appliance or gadget never hurts. Thankfully I can laugh at myself!

Oh my, I don't imagine that was a very pleasant experience! Yes, it does pay to always read the direction on things, especially new ones we just got. Sorry that happened but as you said, lesson learned.

I think I was more annoyed at the waste of money, but it made for a funny Facebook status, and it was a lesson learned. I just got a new one, and at least now I know how to use it!

I have never used one in the oven before but we do use one for the BBQ, esp. when we started to learn how to actually BBQ a steak. It was trickier than we had ever imagines, two came out completely wrong before we got the darn thing.

I have one of those meat thermometers that is meant to be left in the oven. However, I have had the non-leave in kind in the past and have come very close to doing what you did. Laughter truly is the best medicine and it often times can be found in the kitchen!

Missymay, I would have done the same thing because I have a leave in one as well. I probably would not have thought to read the directions to see if it should stay in or not. You are not alone in the kitchen mishap area!
