Its getting to be that time of year again. Which do you prefer to cook outside with, gas or charcoal?

I used to be a charcoal person... but (maybe I should be ashamed to admit
this) it really got to be too much of a pain. Gas is so much easier and more convenient that we haven't used charcoal for many years now.

Gas is for wimps and hamburgers...

I'm with you, Katharina. We use gas exclusively now, because charcoal is just too much of a pain. (I love the charcoal taste on grilled food, though.)

I do, too... just not so much that I want to go through having to cook that way for just three people and 3 or 4 burgers or dogs at a time.

that's it you see.. bbq is for lots of people... not burgers and hot dogs... i can see i'll have to educate you lot!

You need.. half a lamb... some giant mushrooms, some chicken breast... pitta bread... oregano... various salads, humous, taramosalata, big pickled olives, maybe a few juicy steaks... greek sausages (big thick cut things marinaded in wine) tomatoes, onions, peppers....

all done on charcoal.. on a greek style gadget... let me see if i can find a piccy...

Hehe Well in THAT scenario, with a lot of people, we always use charcoal, yes... family gatherings have a few people who always tend the coals and the food prep and the whole neighborhood smells incredible when that happens.

We even tried a teeny tiny little grill for just a dinner for us, though, and it's not practical.

over here you can get this little tray of coals in heavy foil, that you can light up and just do two steaks on, then just throw away... or rather recycle the foil container. Only costs a few pounds and gives you that charcoal flavour without all the excess fuss.

Charcoal rools ok!

I hate cooking outside, I don't mind eating outside but I like my food cooked properly, I don't like the smell or the taste of barbecued food and I don't like the smoke.

I am all for the old fashioned charcoal.

It just doesn't seem like a barbecue if no one is in danger of torching themselves with too much lighter fluid!
