Default Generic cereal

I bought some generic cereals this weekend – Cereal is so darn expensive. I bought the store brand and I have to admit – it’s Awful! My kids turned their noses up when they saw it was not Kelloggs or Post but I said just give it a try. I tried it with them and I did not even finish the bowl. I bought the Golden Grahams generic and Rice Krispy generic. I won’t be doing that again. So much for trying to be frugal – I loved paying less but the taste has to be there.

I am on the fence. I am not sure if the generic stuff is as healthy as the name brand. A lot of the name brand cereals seem to be better fortified. I use the coupons I find to buy name brand cereal.

Buy the generic at Kroger and it is the same as the national brand. At our house we actually prefer the generic products over national brands. When we buy the "real thing" everybody always hates it!

Only problem with that is we don't have a Kroger near us. Wegman's is a great store (that I shopped at) and the cereal was just gross. Come to think about it, their peanut butter and canned veggies are nasty too.

I agree with Izzie on the kroger brand generics being really good but if you don't have one near you that won't work. If you use coupons and watch for drug store sales that might help you out.

That is what I've been doing. You would not believe the # of boxes of cereal I bought throughout the summer. I had tons of coupons and watched the sales. The kids did not eat too much cereal over the summer either. So we are well stocked for the beginning of the school year.

I have never gotten off brand cereal before but I will only get cereal when its on sale. I quit smoking when a pack of smokes was over 5 bucks, I am not about to start paying that price for cereal!

I only buy name-brand cereal. I can't stand the taste of some of the generic cereals I've tried, especially those ones in the big bags. I try to buy them only when they are on sale though. I don't eat breakfast all that much.
