Default Healthy eating tip

My husband and I are always looking for new ways to step up our healthy lifestyle and I heard this tip the other day so I thought I'd share. Do not eat anything that your great grandmother would not recognize as food. With all the processed foods out there today, I thought that was a pretty clever way to determine whether or not you should eat something.

I really like that one, we have so many manufactured foods, even those that are suppose to help you loose weight. Sometimes it's just eerie.

Sometimes I think those so-called weight loss foods are the worst offenders. Honestly, my great grandmother wouldn't have known what to do with a Lean Cuisine. If people would stop eating so much refined and processed food and start eating more fresh vegetables and whole foods it would solve a lot of problems.

I whole-heartedly agree with that. There are so many processed foods nowadays, with chemical additives that are really bad for our health. So frustrating that our children love them.

I agree as well but some foods are so expensive at times it is cheaper to eat the processed foods. It's a shame that "real food" has to cost too much!

I also agree. We definitely need to maintain healthy eating habits. In my particular case I always try to eat balanced meals. Whenever I am having lunch or dinner, I will try to avoid processed foods, ask myself whether I have enough protein, and carbs etc, and at the same time I always make room for healhy snacks. The saying : An apple a day keeps the doctor away is so true in my opinion.

I disagree with this. In my experience, the processed foods are more expensive than the unprocessed foods. Unrefined sugar is cheaper than refined sugar. Brown rice (rice with the bran) is cheaper than the white rice. These are just examples of the cheaper foods I found at our grocery store. I bet fresh vegetables and fruits are cheaper than processed foods that you only needs microwave to be cooked.

We should eat more unprocessed or unrefined foods because it is better for our health.
