Default Holiday Baking

When do you start your holiday baking? I think it is a little early to do too much, but I am going to make some cookies with my little one this week.

The first cook day is the 1st of the month for the holiday treats. We tend to have cookies in the house at least once a month so for us its not a big deal to break them out early, now for holiday cookies we will usually do a few batches (and they go quick).

It really depends on what I want to bake. Some things like breads I can do early and freeze along with some other sweets that freeze good. Normally about two to three weeks a head is when I like to get started if I have a lot to do.

Fudge will keep pretty long if it's stored in the freezer or refrigerator. I do batch after batch to give away. I also like to make up my cookie dough and freeze it instead of baked cookies. They taste better if they're fresh baked so I freeze the dough instead of the cookies.

Anytime after the 13th, we count down the days by that point for all of the kids in the family so its a great way to be able to have extra helpers in the kitchen and count down the days. We also setup a large calender whiteboard for the kids to help mark off each day.

It is never too early to start baking. You can freeze things and then pull them out when it's closer to the Holidays. We have been baking for a few weeks.

We usually start the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I get together with my mom and my sisters and we make candy and bake. I do bake with my kids too throughout the month of December.

I've been participating in a cookie swap for years. We make up at least 8 dozen of any one cookie and then bring them to a central place and exchange. It makes it much easier to have a variety.
