Default How about Deep Fried Turkey?

Was just checking in and saw the smoked turkey thread but we like deep fried turkey. Only thing is we have never tried to fry one ourselves. Has anyone here done that? I've heard it isn't hard but you have to be really careful that you don't get to much oil in the pan or you can really cause some damage.

Our nephew invited us to Thanksgiving dinner one year and deep fried a turkey. I had never heard of it before so I was skeptical, but it was really good. They had too much oil in the fryer though, because it overflowed when they put the turkey in it. Thank goodness they didn't get burned.

We've eaten it several times and really like it if it isn't over cooked. It can get dry if done so. We've never tried to fry one ourselves because of what you just mentioned about having to much oil. Many a fire has been started because of that very thing.

I had it in Texas. It was so good I want to save up to buy a deep fryer big enough for a turkey. When they cooked it they turned off the flame when they put the turkey in. Alton Brown goes even further. Part three shows him putting the turkey in.

I had it at my brother-in-laws house a few years ago. His brother owns a fryer big enough for a very large turkey. They did it in the garage because the grease smell can get very intense (and it's safer for kids to be away period). It was really good.

We love it but the only time we have it is either Thanksgiving or Christmas. We haven't ever fried it ourselves but my brother in law does it all the time and makes it look so easy. But, that's ok, he can fry it and we'll eat it.

Honestly I am not crazy over it at all. We have a big fryer and it's for turkeys and wings. I love turkey! The main reason though is for all the fixings. You just don't have everything else when you deep fry the turkey.
