Default My Slow Cooker Died!

My big oval slow cooker died the other day. I was making pinto beans and had put them in the night before. During the day, I kept smelling something electrical getting hot. I checked the whole house and nothing was wrong. I went to stir the beans about 3 pm and they were cold! The poor thing had given up the ghost. I gave it a dignified burial and whistled taps (dumpster burial ). Then I went back in the house and finished the beans on the stove. I've got to get another one but I'm shopping around for what I want.

Have you seen the new ones that will keep stuff cold until the time you preset and then will heat up at the time and temp you specify? They cost a little more but I am intrigued! I keep at least 2 crockpots at all times because we cook beans a lot as a side but I use them to cook meat dishes as well.

Alygirl, I haven't seen those but they sound fab! I've got an old crockpot my mum let me have but it's seen better days. So I'd say it won't be long before I'm looking for one too. I was looking at one of those that has the travel hooks. You pop the lid on and then close the tabs like a suitcase. It keeps it from slopping over while you travel.
