Default Popcorn balls - Help!

My daughter wants to make popcorn balls with m&ms in them for our family party this weekend. I’ve never made these and would not even know where to start. I know I need popcorn (can I use microwave?) but what keeps the popcorn sticking together? Is it marshmallow? Any tips would be appreciated.

I have seen a few recipes online before but I have never caught one that you can add something like candy into. That might be a new one or at least one I have never heard of, chocolate popcorn though does sound delicious!

You have to make a soft sort of syrup that you pour over the popcorn. It has to be popped in a pan on the stove, not microwave popcorn. Make the popcorn first then put the candy in. Make the syrup and pour it over, stir up the popcorn a bit so the candy gets distributed and butter your hands. When it cools a bit but it still pliable, take a large handful of the popcorn and make a ball, laying them out on parchment paper or wax paper. When they dry, you can wrap them or leave them as is.

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

This is one recipe from AllRecipes.com. I use a different syrup mixture but this one sounds good too.
