Default Can you knit?

I learned to crochet as a child but could never get the hang of knitting. I'd like to try again and encourage my kids to do it too. I know that it's hard to learn from family members, even if we could find the time to get together often enough. Is it possible to learn how to knit from a book?

I think it's great that you want to keep this tradition alive in your family. I could be wrong but learning from a book sounds difficult. Isn't there someone like a friendly neighbor who could teach you?

I would love to learn how to knit. I learned how to crochet from my grandmother when I was younger. Unfortunately, none of my family members knitted, so it was just crocheting for me. I tried to learn on my own and I feel terribly slow.

MegaMom, have you tried watching videos on YouTube? I think it's possible to learn from a book, but I am more of a visual learner. I've found the videos easier to follow.

I can crochet a little, but I never learned to knit. It seems so complex! What a wonderful thing to be able to do!

I started learning how to crochet when I was five years old and sold my first "headband" (a long chain) for 25 cents to both my aunts. I didn't have problems learning because I was very interested. I haven't taught my daughters yet because they are not showing any interest. I do try once in a while but don't push.

When I was in my 20s, my mom and I learned how to make the most basic of points which is the hose one. I found the name not that long ago when I did a search on knitting for dummies. Just with this simple stitch, I have been able to make countless blankets and scarves. It was easy to learn from us from a book because it is all in how you tense/hold the yarn and we already have experience with that.

I would recommend you visit your local craft store. Our local AC Moore and Michael's offer knitting classes. I am sure you will find a class that is just right for you. I highly recommend it. This is the one crafts that works best for watching TV.

No but I've always wanted to learn. I was taught how to crotchet growing up and loved doing that but never got very far. I always wanted to make a full size blanket.

I took a knitting class as a kid and I loved it, but I didn't stick with it and now I've forgotten everything I learned. I would really like to learn again as it seems like it is fast becoming a lost art and it needs to be kept alive.
