Does anybody paint ceramics here?

I am thinking about letting my daughter paint some ceramics for Christmas presents this year. Do you think that is a cheesy (cheap) idea? I am just trying to be more crafty. I do not have a lot of money to spend this year.

What type of ceramics do you think she should paint for gifts? She is 10.

I would stay with the season. You can usually find unpainted ceramic ornaments at Michael's at really inexpensive prices and they are quite adorable. There's a good selection, so your daughter could pick out a different ornament for each person, something that they like or a hobby they have. Check it out.

I love ceramics. I would love to have my own kiln and be able to do some of my own pottery. I think it would be so cool to be able to create something that was my exclusive design.

I think it's a great idea. My daughters love doing that type of stuff, and I just try to steer them towards something that can be used like a plate or bowl rather than just a dust collector.

I used to do it with my mother. I have not done it in years. I was thinking about getting into it again, but all the local shops have since closed up.

I love to paint ceramics. I have not done it in a long time. I like the idea of painting a bowl or plate. Those would make great gifts. I wonder if there are any websites that sell ceramic figures?

If the ceramics are to be gifts to other people, such as family, from your daughter, I don't think it's cheesy at all. People love gifts children work on themselves. If it's meant to be from both of you, I would suggest being involved in overseeing or being involved in the art so it looks appropriate as coming from an adult, too.

Oh I would love to do that! I always wanted to do ceramics but all the places that do them around here are closed up. I did see a place that makes pottery and I'd like to do that to but the paint and bake ceramics places are all gone here.

I like to paint ceramics as well. I also love the idea about the bowls and plates. I saw that on "Jon and Kate plus eight" one time. Kate took the girls to paint and one of the girls and Kate painted bowls.

I wonder if you can paint them and not have them fired again though? Do you think you could glaze them at home and they would be fine?
