Default Crafts based on books

Today I went to my sons school because they were having literacy night. When we got there they handed my kids construction paper that was folded like a book and on the front it said pass port. They had to go around to all the class rooms and do arts and crafts based on different books and different cultures. When they went into the class there was someone standing with either stickers or a stamper ready to stamp their pass ports. They made lei's for the Hawaii room and shamrock pins for Ireland. We loved Ireland because they had a live Irish Jig band. They had food based on the different culture and books were on display. One of the crafts we did was for a book called "The Problem With Chickens". For that craft we put glue in a paper bowl, put shredded up construction paper on top of the glue, put a plastic Easter egg on top of the "grass" and inside the egg was a fuzzy little chick. The kids loved making that little craft!

That sounds so cool!! I'm going to have to suggest that to my local library. That would be an excellent summer craft to have the kids make during summer reading fair. Thanks for the idea!
