Default Making Money With Your Craft

Does anyone make extra money with your craft? It seems like it would be a wonderful way to add some income doing something I really enjoy doing, rather than working a job that I may or may not like. If you do this, please share about it.

It's a very difficult area to break into nowadays because there are so many sweat shops in the Far East churning out hand made goods at very little cost. They sell these on sites like Ebay and they can sell cheaply because they pay the workers so little.

I, like Ace, enjoy woodworking, and I have sold some of my wares to people I know. I've sold handmade furniture items, birdhouses and desks. I'm honored that people want to buy the things I've made

Maybe local craft fairs would be a better place to sell crafts than selling them online. I'm sure at those that aren't juried, there might be a vendor who is selling the less expensive items, but maybe there would be some local loyalty and you could always emphasize quality over price. Has anyone done that?

I agree with local craft fairs. People are more apt to buy things that they can see in person. Also, you could join a local craft group and maybe get some ideas from there. There's one in the area here, I'd love to join them but I haven't had time to really work on any crafts.

Etsy is a good place to sell online, though. I've seen many beautiful things listed there.

I'm not in a place in life where I can devote the required time to develop good crafting skills, although I sew a bit. That may be an area for me to develop enough to be able to sell some things.

I dabble here and there and I went to the craft fair last year right before Christmas. I think I need to prepare better for next time. I don't have the time to devote to craft fairs weekly or more.

There's a lot of crafts that I like to do, but don't think I could ever recoup the cost of time invested. I only give my nieces and nephews the blankets that took me days and days to make. Hopefully they will appreciate it when they're older because it's from auntie.
