Default Making wall hangings out of quilt

I found a couple of old quilts that my Gram made when she was alive. She used to make quilts all the time, with quilt blocks. I have decided that instead of putting new backs on the quilts I will tear them apart (by block) and make wall hangings. I thought it would be nicer if I made these for all my cousins (16 of us) instead of 2 quilts. I can't wait to get them started! I even found floss that she used to use when she embroidered. I will use this to tie the quilt block.

That sounds wonderful I bet your cousins will love it. I know I would! How sweet of you, giving them each a piece of their Grandma. I wish I had an old quilt of my Gram's - I would do the same.

One year for Christmas my friend made quilt blocks for everyone. She framed them and gave them as gifts. While it didn't have the sentimental value that yours will, I treasured the gift because it was handmade by my dear friend. What a wonderful, thoughtful idea!

I am a very sentimental person, and value family history and heritage. I would appreciate a gift like that and it would be very special to me. What a great gift you are giving your family, Happygal!

You know what would be cool? If you could find an old window pane from their home. My mom did this, she made the frames out of an old window pane. So she used quilt blocks, thread and wood from my Grams house.

That is a nice way to keep the gift in the family for everyone to enjoy. I have seen a few people frame an entire quilt before, it was a huge wall piece and the first thing you saw when you came in the door.

What a great idea! I have several blankets from when my kids were babies. Maybe I will try to do this using the blankets. I would hate to get rid of them.
