Default Picture frames

My husband has been bringing home knots of trees cut into slabs - I think they would make the perfect picture frames. Has anyone done anything like this? What would I put on them to protect them?

Never in my lifetime but it does sound fun. I knew a neighbor who took down a few large trees in his front yard, he ended up turning the stumps into little chairs for his grand kids to use when they would visit.

Are they neat shapes? I've seen some pretty cool picture frames that were knots in trees. They are in great demand. I would think you would just put a clear coat on them. Probably sand off any splinters and then put a picture in them.

That sounds like they would be really neat. Couldn't you use wood craft sealant or even modge podge if you want it to be clear?

I think a craft sealant like modge podge would work just fine. You could also use colored wood sealant for decks if you wanted a color to the frame.
